In the context of the Nuclear pillar of the World Tech Conference, the primary objective is to position nuclear power as an enabling infrastructure for European energy, industrial and technological sovereignty, overcoming ideological and fragmented approaches in favour of a systemic, evidence-based and implementation-oriented vision.
From the point of view of European involvement, WTC intends to operate as a platform for convergence between EU institutions, research programmes, industry and strategic finance, promoting:
alignment between national policies and EU initiatives on advanced nuclear energy;
structured dialogue between countries with historically different positions, promoting modular and interoperable cooperation models;
the integration of nuclear power into European frameworks on decarbonisation, energy security, continuity of critical services and support for large electrical loads (AI, HPC, digital infrastructure).
In this context, particular attention is paid to new generation technologies (SMR, AMR, nuclear systems for industrial and network uses), not as a topic of abstract research, but as concrete industrial and regulatory assets, to be evaluated in terms of supply chain, licensing, safety standards, social acceptability and economic sustainability.
Compared to the Italian approach, WTC's nuclear pillar is in line with current developments: a pragmatic return of nuclear power to the national strategic debate, not as a repeat of the past, but as a modern tool to strengthen Italy's energy independence, industrial competitiveness and European credibility. WTC aims to offer a neutral, high-profile space where public decision-makers, the scientific community and industrial players can discuss realistic scenarios, technological roadmaps and governance models, helping to transform the current reopening of the nuclear issue into an authoritative and proactive Italian position at European level.
