Alain Connes

Mathematician and Professor Emeritus at the Collège de France and the Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques (IHES), Paris

Winner of the Fields Medal (1982), the Crafoord Prize (2001), and the CNRS Gold Medal (2004), Alain Connes has revolutionized the theory of operator algebras and founded non-commutative geometry, a new branch of mathematics. Member of the French Academy of Sciences, he is Professor Emeritus at the Collège de France and the Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques (IHES). He is also the author of several popular science books, « Matière à pensée », « Triangle des pensées », « Le théâtre quantique », «  Le spectre d'Atacama » and « À l'ombre de Grothendieck et de Lacan ».
