Dr. Chris Clemens is the Jaroslav Folda Professor of Physics and Astronomy, and former Provost of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He studies the physics of dense matter in stars and develops instrumentation for astronomical observatories. He has served as Chair of the Department of Physics and Astronomy and Senior Associate Dean for Research in the College of Arts and Sciences. He founded and directed the UNC Institute for Convergent Science, and is an inventor whose patents have been commercialized in for applications in renewable energy and hyperspectral imaging.
