Giovanni Acampora

Full Professor of Computer Science at the University of Naples Federico II

In this con-text, Prof. Acampora founded and directs the Quantum Computing and Smart Systems Laboratory (QUASAR), coordinates the activities of the PhD in Computational Intelligence and directs the Quantum Computing Academy. Previously, he was Reader in Computational Intelligence (Sept. 2013 - June 2016) at the School of Science and Technology, Nottingham Trent University, Nottingham, UK. From July 2012 to August 2013, he was in a Hoofddocent Tenure Track in Process Intelligence with the School of Industrial Engineering, Infor-mation Systems, Eindhoven University of Technology, Eindhoven, the Netherlands. His main research inter-ests include both the theory and application of computational intelligence and quantum computing. He is the Chair of IEEE-SA 1855WG and he serves as an Editor in Chief of Springer-Nature Quantum Machine Intelligence. In 2017, he acted as General Chair of IEEE International Conference on Fuzzy Systems andas General chair of the 2025 IEEE International Conference on Quantum Artificial Intelligence. Prof. Acampora has received several prestigious awards, including the IEEE-SA Emerging Technology Award (2016), the Canada-Italy Innovation Award for Emerging Technologies (2019), the IBM Quantum Experience Academic Research Program Award (2021), the IEEE Computer Society Emerging Technology Award (2022) and the Fujitsu Quantum Challenge Award (2024). He has also won three Best Paper Awards at UKCI 2012 (United Kingdom Workshop on Computational Intelligence, Edinburgh, Scotland, UK), Fuzz-IEEE 2021 (IEEE International Conference on Fuzzy Systems), and UKCI 2024 (United Kingdom Workshop on Computational Intelligence).
