Hidetoshi Nishimori

Specially-appointed Professor

Hidetoshi Nishimori received his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Tokyo in 1982. After postdoctoral research at Carnegie Mellon and Rutgers, he joined the Tokyo Institute of Technology, where he served as a professor. He is now professor emeritus and specially appointed professor at the Institute of Science Tokyo. His research covers statistical physics and quantum information, with key contributions to spin glass theory and the proposal of quantum annealing. His honors include the IBM Science Prize, the Nishina Memorial Prize, the C&C Prize, and the Medal with Purple Ribbon.
