Dr. Chris Clemens is the Jaroslav Folda Professor of Physics and Astronomy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He studies the physics compact stellar remnants called white dwarf stars and develops instrumentation for astronomical observatories. He has previously served as Chair of the Department of Physics and Astronomy, Senior Associate Dean for Research and Innovation, and Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost. He founded and directed the UNC Institute for Convergent Science, and is an inventor whose patents have been commercialized in for applications in renewable energy and hyperspectral imaging.
